The Knot

Background
The Knot was exploring how AI might reshape the wedding-planning experience over time. I designed this future-state concept to make that opportunity tangible and support strategic roadmap conversations with product and engineering.
The Knot already supported much of the planning journey, but couples still had to act as the coordinator, keeping track of decisions and moving work across vendor search, messaging, budgets, checklists, and scheduling.
The concept explored how AI could connect those surfaces into a continuous planning system, helping couples move from intent to action while keeping consequential decisions under their control.

Role
I partnered with product and engineering to understand the business context, existing systems, and technical constraints. I then defined the product model, shaped the end-to-end scenario and interaction principles, and designed and built the high-fidelity prototype used in stakeholder and roadmap discussions.

The opportunity was larger than chat
The Knot already supported much of the planning journey, but couples still had to act as the coordinator. They tracked unanswered questions, repeated preferences, compared inconsistent information, and made sure each decision was reflected across the wider plan.
A chatbot could answer questions, but it would not resolve that fragmentation on its own. This concept explored an interaction model where conversation maintained continuity while the interface adapted to the work.

What the prototype helped make tangible
Proactivity without loss of control
The agent could monitor open work, surface meaningful changes, and prepare repetitive tasks without sending messages, changing budgets, negotiating, or booking without approval.
Adaptive interfaces beyond chat
Conversation worked as connective tissue, but comparison, editing, budgeting, and contract review moved into interfaces designed for those tasks.
Better connections between couples and vendors
The agent could translate a couple’s preferences, constraints, and open questions into more relevant vendor discovery and better-qualified outreach. Vendor responses could then flow back into comparisons, budgets, and recommendations, creating a more useful connection between both sides of The Knot’s marketplace.
Trust through evidence and visible uncertainty
Missing information remained unresolved until verified. Recommendations retained their rationale and sources, and users could inspect the evidence behind summaries and decisions.
Outcome
The concept was presented to product and engineering stakeholders as a future-state “concept car” and contributed to broader planning discussions. As a contractor, I did not have visibility into subsequent roadmap decisions, so I present it as a strategic exploration rather than a shipped or validated direction.
Learnings
The strongest opportunity was not a general-purpose wedding chatbot. It was a coordination layer that could move work forward across a complex planning journey while returning to the couple for judgment, approval, and trade-offs.
